Whats coming at the end of the month?

Got some good news and some slight disappointing news to report.

The disappointing news first!

We were leaning toward an early itch.io release, followed by a Steam launch down the line. But its going to creates a logistical hassle when it comes to giving early supporters their Steam keys. We'd be stuck manually chasing down emails and sending out keys,  all while trying to build the actual game. Its probably going to cause more stress than its worth.  Ive also been feeling that the game in its current state is not worth selling, its closer than its ever been to 1.0 but I want to make sure we knock the big launch out of the park.

The good news!

I'm going to be dropping a "living demo" at the end of the month. A distilled, focused version of the game that hones in on the stealth and survival elements. It should be a tight 10-20 minute re playable experience that gives you a real taste of what were making without giving away the whole thing. This demo will update and evolve as the game does. If we make a big changes to the core game play loop or improve something. You will see the updates reflected in the demo. We'll also be making the Team Green Discord public when I drop the demo. If you got feedback, bugs you found, or just want to watch me lose my shit building this thing, come hang out.

Rambling about whats being worked on now

Something I added recently is a few other modes. One being a more story-driven experience, eventually id like to have objectives and characters that follow the story that happens in the book. Its got a good foundation it just needs some more love put into it. The other is the mode is essentially the demo you will be able to play soon, you will be dropped in somewhere on the map and have to find a boat to escape the island while avoiding the Fighting Machines.

We have been putting some thought into how to do the multiplayer since I will be using a networking solution that isn't dependent on 3rd party servers like the previous multiplayer builds. One of the more fun ideas is having cellars placed around the map that you can enter and It will give you the option to connect to a game as a fellow human or a fighting machine. Kinda like a bastardized version of how From Software does their multiplayer in the DS games.

Now that Brunnski has the map practically finished. I'll be playing catch-up with some of the prefabs he used to detail the map. There is a huge amount of props including walls, bushes, etc that need destroyed variants for when  things get messy. And I made a script that not necessarily saves all the destruction, but logs what got destroyed and how. Eventually that will come in handy when save/loading games and possibly for multiplayer (when you connect to a host, the host game should be able to send all that data over to you)

I need to give massive props to Kester & Brunnski! They have gone way above and beyond expectations on sound, level design, and modeling. Every time I see what they've added or worked on for the day has pushed me to keep grinding to make sure the rest of the project lives up to what they have made.

a preview of what Kester has been focused on

Rest assured. You guys are gonna get some tripod action soon! We'll be grinding for the next 10 days to make sure the demo leaves the best first impression possible.

Hello, I would like to ask you again if there will be flying mechanisms and crawlers in the demo version of the game, as well as tripods that release poisonous gas. Thank you and good luck with your development.

For the demo it will just be the fighting machines with heat rays, saving the scarier stuff for the full version of the game.

what is the release window for the steam version? just asking

(+2)

I don't really have a release window for the steam version yet.  Recently ive been feeling  like setting deadlines seems to cause a fair amount of unnecessary stress. Well have a better idea when to release once we get it hooked up to Steam.

Ok take your time i can wait:)

will the military possibly abandoned posts and have survivors of a battle like the artilleryman in the book, and will there be airburst rounds possibly to make it more realistic looking

(+1)

It shouldn't be too hard to have military characters show up as civies once they get defeated. And yeah the cannons can determine whether to fire an air burst or a regular shell. The effects however could use some work to make it look more convincing.

cool, would there be a clocktower for the time and if a tripod is shot will it just fall with only red light or will there be some nice animation of the canopy glass shattering with the blood marks and scortch everywhere? and will there be mass exoduce?

does the demo have a time limit, like in the multiplayer version you had 17 minuets to get to a escape point. Is that still here or do you have unlimited time?

(+2)

Theres no time limit in the demo, but I might have a cylinder spawn as a means of ramping up the difficulty. Kinda a soft way of saying okay times up. lol

okay thanks for the info

(+3)

How different from the main game will the demo be?

(+3)

The demo will have one game mode that's meant to have the player explore the map for an exit while evading detection.

(+3)

Okay, thank you for the info. I can’t wait for the demo release, keep up the hard work! Best wishes!

(1 edit) (+2)

Will this demo have a timer like the last demo version?  It kinda made it stressful.  I prefer to take my time in games.

(Edit, I just saw someone else just asked the same thing LOL.)

Hello, it was a good idea to make a demo version of the game, but I have a question: will the Martians fall in cylinders in the demo version, or will they start walking around the map as soon as we spawn?

(+4)

Right now they just spawn in immediately, Ive thought about  of having a cylinder land somewhere on the map mid-game as a means of ramping up the tension for the demo. I could also add an already open cylinder site somewhere on the map for attention to detail purposes.
