More Level Design with Brunn
Hey there, Brunn here, chiming in again quickly to show off some mapping progress, and also keeping the ball rolling with these weekly dev-logs. Today I want to show some of the lovely assets I've been able to work with, as well as show/talk about some cool stuff we got going on around the game world now!
First up: Theres a few models in-game now for different kinds of walls that primarily appear in the towns or around buildings. The smaller brick walls are easy to jump over and can be used to duck behind
in a pinch. Additionally we have some stone walls that appear in more rural areas, or in towns closer to the coasts.
These larger brick walls, and the iron fence looking walls are easier to hide behind but be aware that you will not be able to climb or jump over these ones. They may save you in a pinch but may also be a dead
end depending on your situation! Always be aware of your surroundings and make sure you have a way out!
Another asset that I'm having a lot of fun mixing into the terrain are these big fluffy hedge models that provide cover, but also just help the map feel more alive!
The player can actually push through these, (albeit slowly and noisily) Be careful not to alert the Martians with all that rustling!
In some areas around the map you'll also find areas that aren't considered towns, but still have buildings clustered around the roadways. The idea here is to make sure that at any point the player can find somewhere to hide, or evade the Martians in some capacity. Be it a ditch, a wall, or a small house out on its own in the country, the player should be able to wriggle their way out of trouble if they're a quick thinker.
There's a lovely new church model in the game that looks absolutely gorgeous sitting on that hill up there, and serves as a sort of beacon over the treetops for which direction the middle of the map is. We plan to have some more landmark style buildings around the map in the future, but for now, it stands as the prettiest structure we have on the island.
With all of that said, here's a few screenshots of the game world in its current state. All of the major towns on the map are done for the most part and all that's left is detailing and filling all the areas in between them.
If there are any questions or suggestions you'd like to see from the game world, don't hesitate to let us know!
