The Multiplayer Grind Continues
Hello everyone, sorry its been a couple weeks since the last devlog. I've had to change my schedule around to get ready for the holidays & I haven't been able to really keep up with the regular updates. I will be moving to a bi-weekly schedule for these devlogs for a little bit more breathing room. One thing I wanted to mention is while I am glad people are mostly enjoying the demo, I myself am not personally satisfied with the game play at the moment. With that being said I am drawing up plans for a course correction to make it a more re playable & fun/scary experience.
I think the main reason why im not happy with the game yet is because I spent so much time on getting a bunch of different things to work the best they can I didn't take the time to work on some fun game mechanics. The past week or so (in terms of coding) have been very reassuring but tedious. Hooking everything up to work properly in multiplayer has been much easier than anticipated & it has given me some time to cut some stuff that the game doesn't need, or is not currently being used. I spent the past couple of days re-coding the martian, fighting machine, & cylinder. One of the neat things I would like to introduce soon is the martians that are not in control of machines will slowly reproduce & multiply as the game progresses. After im finished getting the fighting machine up & running again I will be turning my attention to the player & inventory system.
My plan was after the demo released was to get it on steam and continue working on it from there. But one of the fastest ways for me to test the multiplayer is to run two games on my computer and test it that way. If I hook it up to Steams API it wont let me do that. SO the plan going forward is get a good majority of the networking code finished and then put it on steam for further testing.
If all goes well I would like to have the game on steam & playable soon. That is probably where the next demo update will come from. I don't want to set a deadline for when that will happen cause that usually leads to alot of unnecessary stress & burnout. Id like to avoid that as much as possible. Rest assured, Im going to keep grinding until we have the best WOTW game possible.
